Laminant

PROs: Since laminate is made from pressed wood, it is more durable and resists scratches, moisture and wear and tear. Laminate flooring is also easy to clean.low dust collection compared to carpet, get for allergies.

CONs: Even though laminate is more durable, it may not be as visually appealing although there are great products on both sides of the pricing spectrum.

Tile

PROs: Tile adds value to your home, and is very durable. The ease of cleaning is appealing, and with a large selection of materials to choose from; Slate, marble, porcelain, ceramic and granite, there is definitely something for your space.

CONs: With out in floor heating tile floors can be cold to walk on, also tile does not muffle sound well, so not best for high traffic areas in the home. Tile can be costly depending on the products you desire. Tile can not be repaired a broken tile must be replaced.

Hardwood

PROs: Hardwood is a look when you walk into a home is noticeable. While it also adds value to your home, they are durable and versatile. With more maintenance required it also is fairly simple, with a sweep up and cleaning of spills they can stand the test of time. With hardwood floors less dust collection means less allergies. Also there are some many options with colour, type of wood and sizes. Hardwood floors can be refinished which can help extend the life time.

CONs: Hardwooding flooring is on the higher end of costs for flooring. Hardwood is not also the best for pet friendly, as it is a slippery surfaces and can show wear of scratching although very durable you will still see wear. Hardwood can tend to show dirt and dust so daily sweeping maybe required. Hardwood you will notice notice noise more, walking, echos and can squeak over time.

Resilient Flooring

PROs: Due to its resistant surface, you won’t have to worry about water, or stains on your floor. Very easy to clean, and is available in a variety of colors and patterns, while being very affordable. Resilient flooring has a soft underfoot.

CONs: Resilient flooring does not add significant value to your home, as it is not as desired as other products. Although resilient flooring is easy to clean, it’s not able to be refinished if damaged. The piece/section will have to be replaced which is not always easy. Vinyl resilient flooring is not biodegradable and not the most eco-friendly product if that is something you are concerned about.

Carpet

PROs: Carpet delivers thermal resistance, meaning it is warm and provides a cozy and comfortable space. Carpet softens slips and falls which can be an option with elderly or children.Many different carpet styles and colors, so you have the ability to find something that works with your design.In addition to being a comfortable flooring surface carpet also works as a sound barrier, for theatre or play rooms.

CONs: Depending on your lifestyle, carpet often requires a high level of maintenance, such as occasional deep carpet cleaning and regular vacuuming. Carpet can easily attract dirt and stains and is highly susceptible to allergens such as mold, dust mites and pet dander. It also tends to have a shorter lifespan than other flooring choices.While carpet can remain to be a popular flooring choice, it does not tend to add value to your home.
