Railings & Guard Rails

We have the ability to install a number of different handrail systems available. With various different products on the market for you to choose from we are here to help with your installs.

Once of the most common questions we receive is "What's the difference between handrails and guardrails".

Handrails

Provide a handhold on a platform, walkway, stairway. A handrail only needs to be secure enough to provide stability and a continuous guide along a stair or platform.

Guardrails

Must be strong enough to resist breaking if a person falls or pushes on it (250lbs lateral force).

Guardrails vs Handrails - there are multiple considerations to factor in when choosing & installing these systems including when they are required and what is needed. Allow us as professionals to help you determine what is needed for you.

Things to consider with railings

• Hand/guard rails are to be between 910mm-1040mm
• No horizontal members between 140mm-900mm in height
• Vertical members spacing no bigger than 100mm
• 3 Stairs or more 600mm (24”) require a handrail
• Any stairs over 1100mm in width will require two handrails & 1 if the stairs are under 1100mm.

Railing Types & Materials

Glass Railings

Glass is a beautiful choice for aesthetics on the exterior of your home or patio. Although cleaning is a consideration with glass, it's very hard to beat the look and design with ability to see through the handrail to an amazing view. If you are up for the maintenance this look architecturally is hard to beat. We install Grande Vista handrail systems.

Metal Railings

Metal provides a nice modern and clean look. Relatively easy to keep clean and well priced, great bang for your dollars spent.

Wood Railings

Wood has the ability to be stain and coloured for a look you desire. More maintenance on the side of upkeep with staining, wood is also a lower price point than glass and allows you to reach the look you have been thinking of.
